‘If you put a cape on it, it just might fly’
- Tom Billington, Creative Director
Electric Umbrella is a charity which seeks to empower people with learning disabilities through music. Tommy has been involved in various aspects since trading a night’s sleep and a bacon sandwich in Tom Billington’s caravan at a music festival for a day’s volunteering in 2017.
As well as now running music sessions and gigs for the members, Tommy also specialises in taking donated instruments and converting them into new contraptions designed to be more accessible to play for people with disabilities.
In 2025 Electric Umbrella entered Britain’s Got Talent and received a Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell, although narrowly missing out on a place in the Final they won the opportunity to play at the Hammersmith Apollo live on ITV1 to a viewership of 6 million people.
Tommy’s handmade instrument lamps are available for sale with half the profits going directly to the charity, get in contact with us to find out more.
